Your donations will make enable Habibi.Works to continue to offer a platform for education, empowerment and encounters in northern Greece. Visitors to this intercultural makerspace - including refugees and asylum seekers living in refugee camps and urban accommodations in the area, Greek locals and international makers - will be able to use Habibi.Works' 13 working areas and have access to tools, material and expert guidance in order to envision and create their own projects and solutions.
There are currently more than 3000 refugees living in the region of Epirus, in the north of Greece. Many of them are stuck in a legal limbo and in difficult living conditions for years, without access to education, employment or psychological support. They additionally face several obstacles to integrate into society. In this context, individual freedom and potential are stifled, with thousands forced to be dependent on inadequate systems and structures.
In a context which limits individuals' freedoms and potential, Habibi.Works exists to offer a space where each person is treated as the expert of their own life, met at eye level and empowered to develop their own solutions. Habibi.Works offers access to tools, material and expert guidance in 13 working areas ranging from no-tech to high-tech, free of charge. Anyone is welcome into this intercultural makerspace - allowing for meaningful interactions, bridged barriers and beautiful synergies.
Beyond being able to improve their living situation and address daily challenges through the items created in Habibi.Works, makers have expressed a positive impact on their individual health and well-being by being able to use their time to share and learn new skills, gain self-confidence and be part of a maker community. Additionally, Habibi.Works aims to provide counternarratives to the limiting view on refugees and asylum-seekers, celebrating the resilience and potential of individuals.
