Background
The world watched as Liberian kids as young as 10 years old were exploited as armed combatants. Under threat of death, they committed terrible acts of violence against the Liberian society. Many turned to substance abuse to cope with their experiences. In partnership with IDEFOC, our program named Botanical Reintegration Village aims to provide groups of former child soldiers a three-month program to help them recover from their trauma and obtain the skills necessary for social reintegration.
Project update
As in any organisation must we always be on out toes and work with the team spirit. We are right now reviewing this very topic in our programme in Liberia.
A local Stakeholder Committee is established in all Action10 programmes that shall implement the Milestones in actual practice, and its members are carefully selected in order to make sure they possess an adequate level of the following three characteristics:
i) intrinsic motivation
ii) overall qualifications/skills, and
iii) agency and authority to implement change.
The operations of the Stakeholder Committee are key, as it is the Stakeholder Committee that is in charge of driving change in actual practice. We call the operations of the stakeholder committee RISEagency. Measures are taken to ensure capacity and an enabling environment, including continuous reviews.
