Summary

SK runs non-formal education schools in Siem Reap. Our aim is to give the most disadvantaged and most vulnerable Cambodian youth the tools to rise out of poverty and become responsible adults and upright citizens. The goal of this project is to raise awareness, and to foster a change, on sexuality, sexual and reproductive health, STIs and domestic violence. The project will address 30 young adults, who will take part in an education program on sexuality, relationships and gender relations.

Challenge

Cambodia is highly affected by gender inequality, domestic and sexual violence and prostitution. Young people living in rural areas don't receive information or an education about gender issues and prevention of violence. They don't have access to any information about sexuality and they are not prepared for dealing with their emotional and sexual development. This lack of information and awareness is a primary cause of conflict and the main trigger of violence within the domestic environment.

Solution

SK will organize a workshop addressing 30 young adults (age 16 - 22). The workshops will empower youth in strengthening their capacity to make safe, responsible and fulfilling choices regarding their relationships and their sexual life. The workshop will be run by expert trainers, who will use drama methods, such as personalizing feelings and inner thoughts, metaphors, forum theatre and reversing roles to foster positive and conscious changes in young adults' behaviors.

Long-Term Impact

Promote healthy social, emotional and sexual development of young adults and develop a safe environment where both men and women are equally respected. This will open the way for a non-violent dialogue and the sharing of feelings and choices between young people and their families. In the long-term this will lead to positively impacting gender relations in families and communities.
