They were encouraged to ask practical questions related to hospitality, and the tourism industry. The students were able to better visualize the hotel view and understand the role and responsibilities of hotel staff related to kitchen, front desk, and service/waiters/waitresses as well as the requirements of each position in the hotel, so that they can prepared themselves.
One student, Soben shared his feelings about the benefits of his first visit at the hotel:
“My name is Soben I am studying at Salariin Kampuchea organization. I’m studying English and life skill course.
Many weeks ago I went to visit Sokha Angkor Hotel. I felt so happy when I heard this visit and I know a lot about the hotel, departments, and responsibilities of the hotel staffs. I passed the front desk, the staff are friendly and smiling. This visit encourage my dream to become true. I hope I will work there one day when I graduate from high school and university.
Finally, I would like to thanks to my teachers and Salariin Kampuchea team so much that allow me to participate in the visit and life skill course as well as to have a better education”.
During this period, the students have studied also about social education that consists of many topics.
Another student, Sopha shared her feelings about social education “communication” with Salariin Kamppuchea organization: “My name is Sopha. I am 16 years old. I have one brother and one sister. I am a student in grade 12 at Angkor High school. I am studying English at Salariin Kampuchea organization. I have also studied life skill course. It interests me because it makes me know about life, work experience, presentation, communication and self-esteem etc.
Communication is my interest than the other lessons. Every work, business or study always need communication to get success. The communication is a process of the exchange information, ideas, thoughts, feeling and emotion through speech, signals, writing and behavior. How I benefit from the lesson. I gain about type of communications, verbal and nonverbal and after I finished this lesson, I know a lot of thing that I can understand. For example, when you are talking to your friends, you use means of communication.
Finally, I want to say thanks to my teacher that he taught me about the communication and I hope that next lessons will be more interesting”.
In the coming three months, we will continue social education lessons and integrated career lessons as well as field visits at hotels and vocational training centers. We will produce and print T-shirts for the 4th generation students. We enable them to teach their classmates for improving self-esteem and presentation skills.
We are very proud to have provided this extremely valuable course, and we would like to thank all donors again who supported us through Global Giving. With the help and support of our partners at Global Giving, and you, we hope to keep building on this and moving forward with our personal and career training program for young adults.
