HUNGER, THE COUNTRYSIDE, AND WOMEN

By Lina Barrantes | Fundraising Coordinator

Something as simple as eating is not possible for everyone. In Colombia, 15 million people suffer from hunger and 560,000 children suffer from chronic malnutrition. Every day, many families get up to find food as best as they can, but most of the time they only have enough for one meal a day. The informal economy, violence, and exclusion are situations that condemn them to not having decent food on their table.

Life in the countryside is still unfair. Peasants and farmers produce a lot and earn little. The poor condition of their trucks, the lack of proper tools, and the inclemency of mother nature may cause crops to be lost and family finances deeply Impacted. Placing hundreds of families at risk continuously.

Safeguarding women's rights is another of our tasks. Women and girls living in the slums of Bogotá are among the most vulnerable populations. Teenage pregnancy, prostitution, and lack of opportunities bind them to a dark present and an uncertain future.

At the Bogotá Food Bank, we align our work on three fundamental axes: eradicating hunger, promoting rural development, and strengthening women's economic autonomy. To accomplish our goal, we need the support of the many generous donors that support our work daily.

On behalf of thousands of rural women and girls who dream of a better future, we want to thank you infinitely for your donations. Being part of this crusade against hunger helps us ensure that food in Colombia is a right and not a privilege.

We invite you to continue supporting us for a better tomorrow for our farmers and their families.
