Mkanthama is one of the poorest rural communities in Lilongwe where access to education for children is very hard to find. The next school close to where our school project is situated is about 3 Kilometres away which is very difficult for children to walk to. In 2017 we started this school project so that children in this area can also have the opportunity to go to school and learn. Due to the closure of schools because of Covid-19 we started constructing a school block which has 3 classrooms.
Mkanthama is one of the poorest rural communities in Lilongwe where access to education for children is very hard to find. The next school close to where our school project is situated is about 3 Kilometres away which is very difficult for young children to walk to. BFM in 2017 started this school project so that children in this area can have the opportunity to go to school and learn. Currently we are serving 56 children at this school and with the new block we aim to enroll 120 children
Since we started this project in 2017 we have enrolled and taught 56 children starting from kindergarten to year 1 and 2 . We only have two classrooms which are small and can not accommodate our current demand as we are seeing more children coming in this year. Constructing this new block will allow us to accommodate more children and also start another year group (Grade 3). Our goal is to enroll 120 children once this construction work is complete
We will be able to accommodate more children at our school and we also plan to extend our project by constructing more classes up to grade 8.
