Support the completion of Mkanthama school block

I hope you are doing fine? I just wanted to give you an update of the school progress as we have entered into another academic year. 

The new school term began on 11th September and weve started off with 85 children this term. This intake is very good for the school and the community because it shows that many children are coming to school now. We have also continued doing the Feeding program at the school and this continues to make a very positive impact with the childrens health, school attendance and perfomance.We hope that we will continue to support the children with the feeding program even though we are strugling to get funding for it. 

Clean and safe water is one the most hardest things to find in many rural areas in Malawi and our primary school Mkanthama is one of those victims and just this year our school head teacher suffered Cholera just because of this challenge. 

As of lately we are working on a campaign to drill and intsall a borehole at the school campus so that the children and the community can have access to clean and safe water. The school is surrounded by 11 villages with a population of about 2000 people and the only source of water for these people is the River (See photo below). 

We belive that doing this project at the school will have a positive impact not only to the children at but also the people surrounding.

I hope you are doing fine, firstly I just want to say thank you for the support that you give towards this school, you should know that your support is highly appreciated and without your support it would have been difficult for us to continue run this school to provide education to these young children at this small village, God bless you.

As I said in my previous report that the roof of the school block that was accomodating 3 classrooms was blown away by heavy winds, we are still struggling to raise the funds need ($3000) to renovate the roof so the children are still learning in a classroom that has no roof but we are still hopeful that we will raise the funds needed to renovate tt. We did talk with the community to mobilise some resources so that we can come up with a temporary roof and this is still work in progress. As you already know that we have had challenges to find clean water at the school, the nearest we did find was almost 300 meter away from the school. We have tried many ways to get the water from the ground using all means known to us but we still failed, so please pray for the school so that we might miraculously find the water because it is not good to have a school which doesnt have acscess to a nearby place which has clean water. Our staff goes a log distance to fetch water for the children. 

This school term we have registered 65 children only which is less than last term when we started with 90 children, some students have left because they were coming to school hungry and they compalined that they couldnt manage to come. Even though our organization is strugling financially in other area we have decided to resume the school feeding program at the school so that we can retain as many students as we can that are not coming to school in the village so i can happily say that the school feeding prgram is BACK at the school and we thank the community as they will be part of mobilising the resources to make this program successful. The community willl be involved in providing firewood, maize floor and the workforce to prepare the meals.
