Hello, Muli bwanji?
I hope you are doing well in this New Year of 2024 and that you are safe with everything that is going on in the world.
This New Year started quite slow for us at the school as we had a low turn up of children due to heavy rainfalls which washed away the bridge that the children use to get here. During the first two weeks of the term we only had 25 children coming to the school. Currently we have 55 children which is an improvement even though that is just half of the targeted number of children that we plan to have every term which is 120 children. One other factor to this low turn up is mainly because of hunger that has risen in our country, many parents are failing to feed their families and this has made many children not to come to school because most of the times they are hungry and weak to walk to come to school, in the previous terms we had a breakfast program for the children which enabled us to have more children but we have stopped because we don’t have any funding for it at the moment.
We also do have a challenge and a plea that we want to construct toilet at the school because the ones that we had were damaged by the rains and we just made some temporary ones for the children to be using. We continue to still ask for support so that we can have access to clean water by having a borehole at the school which will also support the people in the area. Last year one of our student died due to cholera at the school and this was because we didn’t have resources such as clean water that would have been used to help out in preventing the spread of the virus.
I know I have said a lot of problems/challenges that we are facing at the school but all in all, the school activities are going on quite well and we hope that we will be able to get more children in the coming days and we thank you for the support that you give towards our programs and school, we do appreciate everything that you do to the children at Mkanthama village, you should know that your support is giving education to the poor children in a small village where they didn’t have access to education but now they do because of you.
God bless you as you continue to remember us in your prayers and giving.
