Dear friends and supporters,
We wish to express our sincere gratitude for your support of our Healing Garden over the past years. As you know, the healing garden was affected by the heavy rainfall that hit Chamchamal in December 2025, which caused widespread destruction in the city. After our first assessments, we were hopeful to continue the project after making the necessary repairs. However, it soon materialised that the damage to the garden was too severe and too costly. Jiyan is no longer in a position to maintain the garden independently.
After years of development and service to the community, we have now officially transferred the Healing Garden to the Kurdistan Regional Government, with the Chamchamal Municipality assuming responsibility for its continued management and operation.
Since its opening in 2017, the Healing Garden has provided trauma-informed care to nearly 20,000 survivors of genocide, war, and gender-based violence and welcomed more than 50,000 visitors. The project has also trained over 100 local professionals, ensuring that trauma-sensitive care and psychosocial support remain available within the community.
The Healing Garden has become a unique example of combining mental health recovery with environmental sustainability, featuring clay architecture, solar energy systems, water recycling, and more than 9,700 planted trees.
The project received international recognition, including the iF Social Impact Prize 2020 and the National Energy Globe Award for Iraq, and was featured by ArchDaily.
None of this would have been possible without your support. We are deeply grateful to our many donors and supporters, whose generosity helped transform this vision into reality.
While management now transitions to local authorities, the impact of your support will continue to benefit the community for years to come.
Thank you very much!
