The earthquake of November 26, 2019 caused considerable damage to many vulnerable Albanian families' homes and produced severe psychological stress which continues nowadays. People lost their homes and nowadays there are families who continue living at tents and still do not fulfill basic needs. Diakonia Agapes received feedback from affected families and wants to support 10 vulnerable families and provide humanitarian and psychological assistance in order to help them rebuild their lives.
The earthquake of November 26, 2019 caused considerable damage to many vulnerable Albanian families' homes and produced severe psychological stress which continues nowadays. At least 5,200 people lost their homes and even those who were accommodated in temporary displacement sites (provided both by the Government and other NGOs) needed food, basic necessities as hygiene items, and psycho-social support. There are families who continue to live at tents. There is a need of rehabilitation.
Diakonia Agapes after continued assessments and feedback from affected families on their continuing needs, will provide material humanitarian assistance and psycho-social assistance to the most affected families. Families are placed in administrative Unit of Peze. 80 families still live in tents and containers and suffer the lack of the basic food and hygiene items. DA in close cooperation with the local authorities will help 10 most vulnerable families based on their immediate needs.
The project implementation intends to reach the 10 families affected by the earthquake have the resiliency to recover their living conditions and have improved psycho-social well-being, including trauma recovery. DA has designed this project for sustainability through the expected impacts and its intention of motivating children to continue their education and families participating actively in healthy rearing their children and full fulfilling basic needs as part of their human rights.
