In rural Nigeria, most children grow up without health education. Classrooms are overcrowded, books are scarce, and hygiene is often overlooked. This project will provide child-friendly health literacy books and simple hygiene materials. We will hold school-based sessions to teach handwashing, personal care, and nutrition through stories, songs, and illustrations. Early health habits can help children stay in school and avoid common illnesses.
In many parts of rural Nigeria, children grow up with little or no knowledge about personal hygiene, basic health, or nutrition. Schools are overcrowded, lack materials, and do not include health education in their lessons. Many children fall sick from avoidable infections caused by dirty hands, poor diet, or unsafe practices. This gap in early education puts their learning and future at risk.
The project will produce simple, illustrated health books in local languages and distribute them to public schools. Teachers and volunteers will run short sessions using songs, games, and role play to teach handwashing, tooth care, safe food habits, and basic illness prevention. We will also give out hygiene kits and set up handwashing spaces in schools where needed.
Children who learn basic health habits early are more likely to stay healthy, stay in school, and avoid preventable diseases. These lessons often reach the home as children pass on what they learn. In time, this can reduce common illnesses like diarrhea and malaria. More children will grow up with better understanding of how to care for themselves and others in their family.
