Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have supported the Supporting Children's Health Literacy in Nigeria project. Your generosity shows care for children growing up in communities where health education is rarely available. However, the contributions received so far are still not sufficient to begin the full rollout of school sessions and distribution of learning materials. We continue to welcome additional support to move this work forward.
In many rural parts of Nigeria, children grow up without basic knowledge about hygiene, nutrition, or simple health practices. Schools often face overcrowded classrooms, limited teaching materials, and very little focus on health education. Because of this gap, many children do not learn simple habits such as proper handwashing, safe food handling, or personal hygiene.
As a result, children frequently fall sick from preventable illnesses caused by dirty hands, unsafe water, or poor diet. These illnesses can lead to missed school days and reduced learning ability. When children remain sick or weak, their education and long-term development are affected.
This project will produce and distribute simple health literacy books designed especially for children. The materials will use clear illustrations and local languages so that pupils can easily understand them. Teachers and volunteers will organize interactive learning sessions in schools using songs, stories, games, and demonstrations.
The program will also provide hygiene kits and help establish simple handwashing points in schools where such facilities do not exist. These practical activities will help children practice the lessons they learn each day.
When children learn healthy habits early in life, they are more likely to remain healthier and attend school regularly. Many also share what they learn with family members at home, spreading useful knowledge within the community.
Although the project has received encouraging support, the available funds cannot yet cover the initial production of materials and outreach visits. Additional support will help bring these lessons and resources to the schools that need them most.
Sincerely,
Joy Ojochogwu Etubi
