Supporting Children's Health Literacy in Nigeria!

By Joy O. Etubi | Project Leader

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We thank everyone who has shown interest and given to this project. The donations received so far are not enough to start any activities at the moment. However, we continue to make preparations so that once we receive enough funds, we can begin without delay.

In many rural areas of Nigeria, children grow up without learning the basics of health and hygiene. Most schools are overcrowded, and health lessons are rarely included in the curriculum. Many pupils come to school without proper hygiene habits, clean hands, or understanding of how infections spread. This has led to frequent sickness, poor attendance, and in some cases, school dropouts.

Our project is designed to change this by providing health literacy materials for young learners. We plan to produce colorful, easy-to-read books and hygiene kits in local languages that explain handwashing, clean food habits, and body care in fun and simple ways. These materials will be used during school-based learning sessions led by teachers and volunteers. Through songs, stories, and short activities, children will learn how to stay clean, eat healthy, and avoid common infections.

While we wait for more funding, our team at Equitable Medicaid and Clinical Research Ltd/Gte has already developed lesson outlines and identified public schools where the first phase will take place. We have also contacted local illustrators and translators who will help adapt the materials into local languages once production begins.

We are truly grateful for the trust and encouragement we’ve received so far. Though the funds are still small, they represent the first step toward a healthier learning environment for Nigerian children. With more support, we can begin this work soon and help children build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

Thank you!
