Splash's goal in China is to ensure clean water for every orphanage in China. Thanks to support from people like you, we achieved this momentous goal in December 2017! But our work doesn't stop there. Splash guarantees 5-10 years of maintenance and spare parts for each site. We're working hard to build a sustainability model to ensure safe water remains for all Chinese orphanages through local, independent management of Splash filtration systems. We need your help to keep water flowing!
Life trajectories are forever impacted by unclean water. There are 120,000 children living in orphanages in China and life is not easy for them. For a child who spends the majority of their childhood in an orphanage, the long-term impact of waterborne illness is substantial. We've successfully installed commercial grade water filtration systems at 1,100 orphanages across 32 provinces spanning 3.7 million square miles. Now we need to ensure the clean water is maintained and sustained!
Splash leverages what already works for restaurants and hotels - their technology, supply chains, and standards - to get the same clean, safe water flowing in orphanages that is already found in multinational restaurant chains and hotels. What is more, Splash achieves this in effective collaboration with both existing manufacturers and the Chinese government. The Chinese government is demonstrating unprecedented commitment to improving the lives of children living at the margins.
Children under the age of five are disproportionately impacted by the negative consequences of consuming unsafe drinking water. They are much more likely to sicken from harmful bacteria than adults, and less able to recover. Reliably safe drinking water will dramatically improve the health of orphaned kids in China. As of July 2017, over 87,000 kids have access to clean, safe water every day!
