Challenge

Nigeria has been identified as one of the top three leading contributors to the global prevalence of developmental disabilities according to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. These disabilities, which include cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism spectrum disorder, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, learning disorders, intellectual disability and Down's syndrome, affect many young people, impairing their experience in the classroom and hindering many aspects of their life.

Solution

IT4ALL will host weekly workshops to challenge the students to create and solve technology inspired tasks. Once a week, 3 age-groups of participants (pre-school, school, and adolescents) are taught separately through an engaging curriculum, which includes: Computing Fundamentals and Robotics. They also learn to use digital tools to communicate, play, learn, understand and use information.

Long-Term Impact

The Inclusive Technology for All (IT4All) programme will equip young people with developmental and intellectual disabilities with the ability to use technology to direct their creativity and improve their problem-solving skills. As a result, they are better prepared with the skills and confidence to navigate a technology-centered world. In addition, the facilitators are equipped with the skills to enhance their regular classroom teaching using digital tools.
