Inclusive Technology for ALL (IT4ALL) Programme

Over the past three months, the IT4ALL Programme has continued to create inclusive learning opportunities for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) through foundational technology training. Below are some highlights of our achievements:

Digital Literacy Training
Trained 21 participants in basic computer skills such as navigating desktops, opening applications, and using educational tools independently.

60% of learners now demonstrate comfort using the mouse, keyboard, and touchscreen.

40% are still developing these essential skills.

Introduction to Coding with ScratchJr
Exposed participants to visual programming through ScratchJr, empowering them to create simple animations and interactive stories.

15% successfully used logic blocks and movement commands to express ideas creatively.

85% are still progressing toward mastery.

Hands-On Learning & Problem-Solving Activities
Organized interactive sessions using puzzles, matching games, and digital drag-and-drop challenges to enhance fine motor skills and critical thinking.

These activities encouraged patience and teamwork while building cognitive engagement.

27% are still learning, and 15% are yet to begin this activity.

Typing Skills with Typing Land
Introduced learners to Typing Land, a fun platform designed to improve typing accuracy and confidence.

Participants showed improvement in finger placement, key recognition, and typing rhythm.

12% completed exercises with minimal assistance, while 58% are yet to start.

Individual Progress & Inclusive Support
Continued personalized progress tracking to adapt teaching methods to each learner’s abilities.
Caregivers and facilitators reported remarkable improvements in learners’ focus, communication, and enthusiasm toward technology-based learning.

The “Inclusive Technology for All (IT4All)” is a technology-based learning initiative for  students with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Students participate in weekly workshops, which challenge them to create and solve technology inspired tasks. By so doing, they develop digital and creative skills and are better prepared for the 21st century information technology-centered society.

IT4ALL is a partnership of the Children’s Developmental Centre (CDC) and the Women’s Technology Empowerment Centre (W.TEC).
 
Objectives:
The IT4All programme seeks to:
1.      Use technology to encourage and direct the creativity of students with developmental and intellectual disabilities and improve their problem solving skills.
2.    Equip teachers and caregivers with the skills and confidence to enhance their regular classroom teaching using digital tools.
 
Participants:
Three classes of students participate in the program at the CDC in Surulere – Lagos:

1. Pre-School:  Children ages 3 – 8 years

2. School:          Children ages 9 – 17 years

3. Adolescent:  Adolescents 18 years and above

Programme Highlights and Impact:

Over the past three months, the IT4ALL Programme has made progress in empowering individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) through foundational technology training. Below are key achievements:

1. Digital Literacy Training

Trained over [21] participants in basic computer operations, including how to navigate desktops, open applications, and use educational software independently.

60% Learners demonstrated comfort using the mouse, keyboard, and touchscreen interfaces. 40% are yet to master this skill.

2. ScratchJr Coding Sessions

Successfully introduced visual programming using ScratchJr, enabling participants to create basic animations and interactive stories.

15% could use logic blocks, sequences, and movement commands, building confidence in expressing creativity through code. 85% are yet to master this skill.

3. Hands-On Learning Activities

Conducted regular puzzle-based problem-solving sessions, which enhanced learners’ fine motor skills, critical thinking, and patience.

Activities included matching games, digital drag-and-drop challenges, and tactile learning tools tailored to their cognitive levels.

 51% could complete these with no assistance, 30% were yet to master this skill, while 19% are yet to be taught.

4. Typing Skills Development with Typing Land

Introduced learners to Typing Land, an engaging platform to build foundational typing skills.

25% participants have shown measurable improvement in finger placement, key recognition, and typing confidence over consistent weekly practice.75% could complete it with some assistance.

5. Individual Progress Tracking & Inclusive Support

Maintained individualized learner profiles and adapted teaching methods to suit varying ability levels.

Received positive feedback from caregivers and facilitators regarding noticeable improvements in attention span, communication, and enthusiasm toward learning.
