This project aims to help women and children as they are beaten and murdered as the victim of jealousy, and excessive drinking of alcohol by their spouses or parents, specially recent years. This project is going to be run in Darkhan, the second biggest city of Mongolia. We are going to establish a temporary home to protect 384 victims a year. We have met with the authorities of General Office Police of Darkhan-Uul province and we have negotiated on cooperation on this project.
Darkhan has over 100 000 population and there is statistic that says at least 10-15 per cent of the population become victim of family violence and most of the victims or 70-80 per cent of the violence are children and women. Women and children are beaten and murdered as the victim of jealousy, and excessive drinking of alcohol by their spouse. Most violence happened during night and the victims don't have place to stay overnight. Especially in winter, it is very dangerous to be frozen.
If this temporary shelter is established, the children and women who became the victim of family violence can be safe and peaceful atmosphere until their case is solved at court and get health, social welfare, legal and psychological advice from our advisers. This shelter is specifically designed to provide a safe, family-friendly, therapeutic environment where adults, youth, and children can begin to heal from trauma and establish goals towards self-sufficiency.
A year, about 384 women and children who became victims of family violence stay for a certain time safely and comfortably at our temporary home but also they are provided with useful legal information about women's right and how to protect themselves against the violence in the future, how to care for their children and what is the role of spouses. Our constant training will improve their confidence and change their way of thinking; therefore they will learn how protect themselves from violence.
