Cancer is now one of the top causes of death in Nigeria. Many cases are detected late due to poor awareness. This project will hold a large public walk in Abuja on World Cancer Day 2027 to raise awareness, distribute flyers, offer free checks, and host short talks on early signs. Funds are urgently needed to organize logistics, outreach materials, and free screening tents. The walk aims to educate over 5,000 people in one day.
Many people in Nigeria know very little about early signs of cancer or how to seek help. This lack of information leads to late diagnosis, which limits treatment options. Myths and fear also prevent people from going for checks. Without regular campaigns, cancer continues to spread quietly in communities. There is little attention to prevention or public talks on simple steps to take.
The Big Walk will bring together people in Abuja to raise awareness and give clear messages about early signs of cancer. We will share flyers in simple language, offer free screenings, and give talks in Hausa, Pidgin, and English. Local nurses will join the event to explain symptoms and where to get help. This face-to-face outreach helps break fear and myths in a public setting.
This project will reach thousands of people in one day, many of whom have never received any health education. The walk will help people spot early signs and reduce fear of seeking care. With more people going for checks early, more cases can be treated in time. Over time, this can reduce cancer deaths and push for stronger public education campaigns nationwide.
