Big Walk Cancer Awareness 2026 was a Huge Success!

By Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri | Project Leader

Dear Donors,

We sincerely thank those who supported the Big Walk: World Cancer Day Awareness – Feb 4th, 2026. Your support, together with assistance from partners and sponsors, made it possible to hold this important public event despite limited funds for full coverage.

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in Nigeria, and many people are still unaware of early warning signs or where to seek help. During the week of this event alone, more than five people lost their lives to cancer in Abuja. This reality made the walk impossible to postpone or ignore.

The Big Walk was held in Abuja as part of World Cancer Day activities. We partnered with the Embassy of Norway, Embassy of Germany, and the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs for the event tagged Cancer No Be King. The 5.6km walk brought together the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, UN Women, government agencies, and international NGOs. The walk began at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs with opening remarks by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs. Ambassadors of Norway and Germany, alongside representatives of the Police, Army, and Air Force, delivered goodwill messages during the program.

Throughout the walk, flyers were shared, brief health talks were held in simple language, and free checks were provided. Thousands of people were reached in one day with clear messages on early cancer signs and the importance of early care.

As we plan for the 2027 Big Walk, we are seeking your full support to help make the next edition even more impactful and far-reaching.

Thank you for standing with us to raise awareness and save lives.

Kind regards,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
