Inspiring a Generation of Girls in Puerto Rico

By Yamilin Rivera Santiago | Director of Communications and Digital Organizing

The Impossible Poster is a visionary initiative by Taller Salud aimed at transforming the lives of young girls in Puerto Rico. The project addresses the critical need to empower and uplift the next generation of women by instilling a sense of self-worth, agency, and an understanding of their vast possibilities. By leveraging the power of positive reinforcement and mentorship, The Impossible Poster seeks to counteract the prevailing challenges faced by girls in Puerto Rico, such as femicide and restrictive reproductive rights policies.

In Puerto Rico, femicide remains a harrowing reality, occurring at a staggering rate of one every seven days. The broader societal debate on women's prosperity, coupled with policies that curtail reproductive rights, contributes to a challenging landscape for girls growing up in the region. Taller Salud recognizes the urgency of addressing these issues from a grassroots level, understanding that transformational change must begin with empowering young girls.

The primary goal is to inspire thousands of girls across Puerto Rico. By focusing on the age group often overlooked in discussions about women's rights, Taller Salud aims to instill a sense of self-worth and agency in young girls, fostering a belief in their vast possibilities.

Acknowledging the challenging environment in which girls are raised, The Impossible Poster seeks to turn a young girl's room into a sanctuary. By utilizing something as simple yet powerful as a poster, the project aims to create a national movement that brings the voices of accomplished Puerto Rican women into the personal space of young girls, providing positive reinforcement and a sense of belonging.

The project envisions a platform for women to share advice, wisdom, and life experiences through the posters. These manifestos of life will serve as beacons of inspiration, fostering a community of support and mentorship that transcends geographical boundaries.

Taller Salud recognizes the apathy regarding women's rights in the national sphere. By equipping parents and girls with empowering statements and ideas, the project aims to challenge this apathy at its roots, inspiring a new generation of young activists who will advocate for their rights and women's rights globally.

The Impossible Poster has the potential to catalyze female empowerment, creating a blueprint for societal change. By targeting the source and providing girls with the tools to inspire themselves, the project aims to create a ripple effect that resonates in Puerto Rico and serves as a model for other regions globally.

Taller Salud's The Impossible Poster is more than a project; it is a call to action, a beacon of hope, and a commitment to shaping a future where every Puerto Rican girl can realize her full potential. Through this initiative, we aim to amplify women's voices, one poster at a time, and create a legacy of empowerment that transcends generations. The Impossible Poster is about inspiring young girls and creating a movement that propels us all toward a more equitable and just world.
