Association Jakon Rate, in collaboration with Alianza Arkana, is happy to report that have we have received the support to acquire the second of three plots of land to make THE JAKON RATE CENTER FOR SHIPIBO-KONIBO STUDIES a reality!
We have been building our team and will soon be launching our website where you can learn more about how we create spaces for the Shipibo-Konibo and outsider allies to practice, learn, and advance the application of our Indigenous worldview, wisdom, language, and customs to live in balance with the Jakón Néte - 'the life-giving good world'.
Jakon Rate and her family have been able to locate a beautiful piece of land 8 km from the cities of Yarina and Pucallpa that is a raised peninsula of forest and farmland, which extends out, east to west, in the natural flood plain between the oxbow lakes of Cashibococha and Yarinacocha! Below you can observe its location in reference to the city of Yarina.
Initially Jakon Rate purchased a 3.4 hectare plot in the middle of the peninsula (outlined in green) and are now purchasing the large 12.6 hectare plot on the eastern side that will provide the space for the traditional school infrastructure and other spaces for regenerative agricultural initiatives to complement and support the objectives of the school. We can now begin drawing out the regenerative design for the land while we continue to work on acquiring the final plot on the western tip. The Shipibo-Konibo community of San Salvador is located to the west (the backwards ‘L’ shape on the right).
