Ichabires irake! / Many thanks!
Over the past four months the Jakon Rate Center for Shipibo-Konibo Studies has been busy building! We were able to complete our greatest goal to dig and equip a water well 112.5m (369ft) deep to provide safe drinking for the whole Jakon Rate community!
The well is equipped with a 10m (33ft) water tower that has an observation deck to survey the landscape and view many varieties of birds in this natural sanctuary.
We have also completed construction of a new kitchen and dinning area for students. This compliments the construction of two unique school houses for kids and adults who wish to learn more about this beautiful culture.
With all of the construction work we have not been able to lauch the jakonrate.org website yet, but we will send out word as soon as it is live for you all to visit, purchase our prerecorded Shipibo-Konibo language lessons or sign up for live lessons beginning in August, and maybe even come to Peru to visit, help out, and learn!
Furthermore, our partnership and collaborations with Alianza Arkana continue as we look after all the trees, medicinal plants like the Chiric Sanango (Brunfelsia grandiflora) seen below, and fields of plantains, bananas, sweet potato and cassava planted during the rainy season.
We appreciate all our your support in making this possible, especially our past and new recurring donors! Please make a donation now to continue our good work and plant our low lands with flood resistant trees to provide a natural boundary of food, medicine, fuel, and fibers!
Jakon nete kanoya! / The life-giving good essence of creation is with you all!
