Picking Out Prospective Centers
By Rob Bollinger | Founder and President of Nehemiah's Restoration
Now that things have opened up more in Western Kenya, our staff are finally able to make trips to the field. In fact, we have one trip planned for this week during which one of the main agenda items is to identify a new center for Nehemiah's Restoration to partner with. We told you in our last report that we have transitioned from the idea of a school toilet, to a community one. And we think that building a toilet in the geographical area of a new center will be a great way to bolster the center's relationship with the community. We are incredibly excited to finally be able to move forward with this project and look forward to updating you soon as to the progress that is being made!

Community Toilet
By Rob Bollinger | Founder and President of Nehemiah's Restoration
While our toilet project was effectively put on hold during the pandemic lockdowns, we took the time to rethink how we might be more effective in building the second toilet project. So we brainstormed with our partners at Nazarene Compassionate Organization (NCO) and came up with a new plan we believe will be better for the community in the long term.
During this process, it was decided to change our approach from building a toilet in a school campus, to building one in a community center where it could be more accessible to everyone in the community. The biggest concern with building a toilet in a community center, is who will maintain it on a regular basis after its built. So currently, we are looking for a community center where the need will be great, where we hope to develop a relationship with the local people, and where there will be people in the area willing to partner with us in the maintenance and upkeep of the toilet. Please keep this process in your prayers as we look for the best possible location, where there is the greatest need and the people to maintain it.

Another COVID Lockdown
By Rob Bollinger | Founder and President of Nehemiah's Restoration
As we continue to try and identify another recipient for a school latrine, our efforts have been temporarily hampered by yet another recent lockdown of Kisumu and 12 other counties, due to COVID19. When we reported last time, we were beginning the process of looking for another school that we could partner with to build another toilet. But with the lockdown and high COVID19 rates in the areas we work in, it became impossible for our program coordinator to travel to the field and participate in the vetting process of the schools.
During this time, we've had to shift our focus towards emergency food distributions that have been implemented by our partners, Nazarene Compassionate Organization, thanks to their staff member, Dr. Samuel Oketch who lives in the area. We are incredibly grateful to NCO and Dr. Oketch, without whom, just about all of our work would have been stalled. Once things have opened up more, we will resume our search for another school, and we will keep you updated as we make progress! Thank you again for your support of this project!
