Researching Next Recipient
By Rob Bollinger | Founder and President of Nehemiah's Restoration
Though schools in Kenya opened at the beginning of this year, they still had to make up for over two thirds of the previous school year. Which meant there were a lot of kinks to be worked out. With the up's and down's of trying to navigate this uncertain time, there were also a lot of administration changes at Unami School, where we built the first six-stall toilet. We soon realized that our original plan to build a second toilet at Unami might not be the best way to move forward. Instead, we came to the conclusion to build the second toilet at another school location that is facing the same struggles Unami was originally.
So, with the help of partnerships on the ground, we are doing the research to find a second school that is in dire need of a six-stall toilet. We want to be able to help more than just one school become a safe, healthy environment for the students that study there. Thank you again for supporting this project and your patience as we work to make sure that we are being the best possible stewards of your support as we can be!

Students Back to School!

Juliet, one of our Young Legends back at school
In January of 2021, Kenyan schools opened for in-person learning after being closed since March 2020. There were many difficulties to be worked out as schools navigated how to pick up where they left off with the school year. During the time they were closed, many schools tried to implement online learning. However, as a good majority of their students did not have internet, or even computer access, this proved to be very difficult. There will be a lot of learning to make up as they resume school this year. We are excited to see students back in school and are hopeful that life will go back to normal soon. With this new development, we are extremely hopeful that we will be allowed to resume our project and build our final toilet soon!

Covid Continues to Keep Schools Closed
By Rob Bollinger | Founder and President of Nehemiah's Restoration
Food Distribution
Unfortunately, due to Covid19, schools in Kenya have been closed for almost 7 months now. Most schools' buildings and facilities have been left completely unused during this time. On top of this, for a good majority of that time, most movement and construction was halted in an effort to minimize the spread of the virus. These factors combined, have made it impossible for us to build our second toilet during this time period. However, as stated in our last report, this pandemic didn't stop the work that needed to be done. We have now successfully held three monthly food distributions and have transitioned from offering relief to the families and Orphans and Vulnerable Children(OVCs) that we work with, to now empowering them to be able to take care of themselves by supporting them with seeds for planting. With harvest season soon approaching, we are excited to see how these families have done for theemselves!
That being said, the Cabinet Secretary of Education has made several announcements lately that would seem to suggest the opening of schools by early next month. As we eagerly await the re-opening of schools, would you pray for the children of these schools as they are thrown into their new normal, for the teachers who are trying to ensure these children receive the best education possible despite new challenges, and for Kenya's leaders as they grapple with making the best decisions for their country?
