Since 2012, the NAPE Foundation has awarded over 500 scholarships to Ghanaian students to pursue higher education. Palm Institute, a private liberal arts University College in Ghana has been educating the youth for 10years. The mission of the University College is to produce not just regular graduates, but educated ethical and excellent leaders who have the burden to change the story of the African continent in the area of leadership.
Many high school graduates have the desire to pursue higher education but are financially challenged. While some of these students live in the cities most of them come from impoverished families in the Northern parts of Ghana. They are subjected to child labor and have to work on farms, and some teach in schools to cater for their families. Their income from these jobs ranges between $20-$70 a month.
Educating these students to start their businesses through the www.greenlab.palm.edu.gh, go to graduate school or get a job by preparing them for industry through the Palm Career Services office is the solution to the plight of these brilliant but financially challenged students. The provision of funding for quality education for these students will help them change the trajectory of their current lifestyle.
Graduates will begin to start their own businesses and employ and support other youth who find themselves in the same condition to get quality education. These students will be able to change their stories of their families.
