CAREER SEMINARS
CAREER PATH DEVELOPMENT II/III (JUNIORS, BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY)
The juniors had the privilege of learning from a distinguished guest speaker who happens to be the Chief Technology Officer of SIMNET Ghana Ltd. During an insightful seminar on the diverse career paths and opportunities within the world of Business Information Technology fraternity, he brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to our students, throwing light on the highly sought-after career paths in the Information Technology (IT) industry. He emphasized the importance of acquiring the necessary skills and experiences required to excel in various IT roles. He shared insights on the types of skills that are currently in high demand locally and internationally. The seminar did not only inspire our Juniors but also provided them with a roadmap to guide them in the dynamic and ever-evolving field of IT.
MAJORS AND CAREERS (BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION)
The Majors and Careers seminar was organized by the Student Life & Career Services Department to introduce our Business Administration students to career prospects in their field of study. The seminar was facilitated by the President of Palm University. He highlighted the diverse skills needed in the industry, the promising career prospects and paths, the relevant certifications and reputable certification bodies and institutions and the benefits of being a certified professional.
MAJORS AND CAREERS (COMPUTER SCIENCE & BIT)
The freshmen and sophomores studying BSc. Computer Science and BSc. Business Information Technology were introduced to the fundamental computer disciplines on their edition of the Majors and Careers seminar. Our visiting professor, who is a Computing/Information Technology Education Consultant and Professor of computer information systems at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio, USA, facilitated the seminar where he introduced students to emerging fields in the 21st century; such asCybersSecurity, Data Science, and Informatics. The seminar shed light on the dynamic world of computer science careers, and helped students to understand the diverse career options available.
THE SELF-DISCOVERY JOURNEY
As part of Palm University’s quest to help students build their personal and professional career goals, the freshmen and sophomore classes were introduced to the importance of becoming their most authentic selves in a seminar titled, The Self-Discovery Journey. The seminar was facilitated by the President of Palm University. During the seminar, Dr. Okantey shared with the students how they could start their self-discovery journey, challenges they may encounter during the journey and why self-discovery is crucial in influencing their career prospects.
FIELD TRIP (INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS)
The three (3) University of Alabama students who are currently on their Social Work Practicum Program here in Ghana through Palm University were taken on a field trip to Global Mamas, Ghana. The students were given a tour the Global Mamas facilities and were introduced to how Fair Trade products are made. It was educative and fun as the students were given the opportunity to practice how the products are made. The students also visited the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital in Accra in the month of October to interact with the staff and patients.
FIELD TRIP (COMPUTER SCIENCE & IT DEPARTMENT)
On 24th October, 2023, the Department of Computer Science & Information Technology embarked on an educational field trip to the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT and the Bureau of Marketing and Social Research. The educational trip aimed at providing students with valuable insights into Ghana's ICT education industry, research, and marketing and social research practices. The overall experience was highly successful, leaving a lasting impact on the participating students. The field trip enriched the students' understanding of ICT, marketing, and social research.
PALM TOWN HALL MEETING
Palm recognizes the importance of creating an environment where all voices are heard and valued. In view of this, town hall meetings are a held at least once a semester. On 18th October, 2023, the Palm University community held its maiden Town Hall meeting for the 2023/2024 academic year. The event served as a platform for open communication, fostering a collaborative environment where the concerns of students, faculty, staff, and the management were brought to the forefront. The president also takes this opportunity to give the university community updates on the current state of the university in terms of faculty, staff and student.
During the meeting, students articulated their concerns and provided recommendations for careful consideration, the leadership of the University. The leadership of the University addressed students’ concerns and showcasing their commitment to enhancing the overall Palm experience for all stakeholders.
In the spirit of transparency and inclusivity, the town hall meeting also featured an engaging Q&A session where students had the opportunity to ask direct questions of the leadership of the University. It was also a platform to honor the Palm students who won the 2023 International Youth Day Community Services Projects. (See story below)
FOUNDER’S WEEK CELEBRATION
Palm University celebrated its Founder and 11 years of excellence and resilience during the Founder’s Week celebration from 25th to 27th October, 2023. The Founder's Week was dedicated to honour and celebrate the visionary who started it all.
The celebration was marked by heartwarming acknowledgments and tributes to our esteemed Founder. With Palm University turning 11 years old, it was time to acknowledge the relentless dedication and unwavering resilience that have kept this institution thriving. During the celebration, heartfelt messages and well wishes came from friends and family, and meaningful gifts were presented to our Founder, making it a day filled with love and honour.
The second day of the Founder's Week was dedicated to the intellect and creativity that define Palm University. Students participated in a thrilling quiz competition that tested their knowledge across various centers and services in the University.
Following the intellectual challenge, the community came together for a relaxing movie night. Laughter, camaraderie, popcorn and ice cream filled the air as we enjoyed a selection of classic and contemporary movies. It was an evening of bonding and cinematic delight.
The concluding day of Founder's Week brought sports enthusiasts to the forefront. A thrilling football match took place, pitting our dedicated staff against our spirited students. At the end of the tournament the staff emerged as the victors.
The celebration was a reflection of the values and spirit that had defined our institution for over a decade.
BEST COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT
A sophomore studying BSc. Business Administration achieved a remarkable feet for his exceptional dedication to our community service program here at Palm University. Palm proudly recognizes his outstanding initiative and contribution to his local community.
He took the initiative to enhance his community by weeding the Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound at Twifo Bimpongso in the Central Region of Ghana and also planting vibrant flowers, transforming the area into a picturesque and welcoming space for all residents. His tireless efforts and commitment to creating a more beautiful and sustainable environment did not go unnoticed.
As a testament to his dedication, his community service project has been awarded as the best community service project during the 2023 International Youth Day. This recognition not only highlights his individual efforts but also underscores the values of compassion, responsibility, and active citizenship that we aim to instill in all our students.
