Please support Kono Gnaga's mission to uphold the rich cultural arts traditions for the next generation of Mali! We are seeking $4000 to expand our programs outside of the capital of Bamako, working with a school and a community in the Segou region. We will partner with a school in the region, teaching dance to students and a hold a festival for the community as we have done for 5 years in Bamako. This will allow us to reach local artists, schools, and communities in rural regions of Mali!
Intangible cultural heritage provides context-specific content for education programs and increases the relevance and quality of education. Kono Gnaga has been successful with our programs in the capital of Bamako, but it is time to expand into the more underserved rural areas. We can begin this year with $4000 to implement a program partnering with a school and community in the Segou region.
We will provide a traditional dance and drum program in a school in the Segou region and bring people together for a community festival. Your support will help us expand our reach outside the capital to underserved areas and help us uphold the rich cultural arts heritage for the next generation of Mali!
The festival will as always complement the academic programs for students in the Segou region placing the school at the center of the community event. The program and the final festival will promote social cohesion, through a celebration of culture and traditions and the beautiful diversity in Mali. This is extremely important given the current context of continued internal conflict that Mali faces. Your support will help us with this work!
