This project will train 800 girls in Nigeria and Ghana, with 400 participants in each country, to gain bakery skills. Each participant will receive equipment and a small grant to start a business as a pathway out of poverty. Many girls drop out of school due to financial hardship, early marriage, lack of job opportunities, and limited access to resources. These bakery businesses will enable them to pay school fees, cover medical expenses, purchase sanitary pads, and meet household needs.
In Nigeria and Ghana, many young women leave school due to poverty, early marriage, and lack of job skills. Without income, they struggle to pay school fees, buy sanitary pads, or cover basic healthcare. Limited vocational training leaves them dependent on low-paying or informal work. Without a chance to learn practical skills and access tools to start a business, the cycle of poverty continues.
We will train 800 girls in bakery production, teaching them how to make bread, pastries, and cakes for local markets. After training, each graduate will receive essential baking tools and a small grant to start a home or community bakery. This setup will allow them to earn daily income, pay for their education, cover healthcare costs, buy sanitary pads, and meet family needs, creating a practical path to self-reliance.
With bakery skills and startup resources, participants can sustain small businesses, grow their income, and train other women. In due time, more girls will stay in school, families will have better access to food and healthcare, and communities will benefit from increased local business activity. Graduates may expand into catering or larger-scale baking, building a network of women-led enterprises across both countries.
