Making progress
By David Steiner | HATW CEO
In recent times the geological survey has been undertaken and the borehole is due to be drilled any time now. Anticipatory excitement is really running high at the school!
Mike Williams has now booked his ticket to go back to visit the team at Siriba in mid May and will report back here on his return. Students are in training, we know that the management committee has met and agreed a way forward, and Mike is looking forward to meeting up with them again.
Long-distance communications are always hampered by the lack of electricity and the need to travel for an hour and a half to access emails. Even text messaging doesn't work when you can't charge your battery!
We are seeking to target the available funding very carefully to maximise the long term benefits...

Exciting news - some support promised!
By David Steiner | HANDS AROUND THE WORLD CEO
I am delighted to report that in recent days we have had 3 separate promises of substantial support for this project.
This is really wonderful news! Although the funds have not reached us yet, we know there will be sufficient to allow a geological survey to go ahead, preparatory to drilling a borehole.
Depending on the ultimate cost of this, there should be sufficient left over to allow the purchase of wood for making tables and work benches, to buy and deliver some tools and sewing machines, and even to contribute towards the cost of salaries for 2 of the carpentry and tailoring trainers.
Rev Mike Williams our HANDS AROUND THE WORLD link volunteer will visit again in April to bring support and lots of encouragement to the local management committee. It is wonderful to hear how this news has already given them all a tremendous psychological boost!
Please continue to support their efforts to make a real difference in the lives of many seriously disadvantaged and vulnerable young people by offering them a chance to undertake training. Thank you for your help!

Making Good Progress
By David Steiner | HATW CEO
The training of 25 young people in carpentry and also in tailoring is going well, and we are delighted to have received donations of three treadle sewing machines and two used laptops which are now starting out on their way to Uganda. The sewing machines will be used in the training, and the laptops in recording the students' data, fees as they are paid, and to help communication with us (hopefully via a dongle/modem) in the UK. At present the team can only contact us when they go about two hours on the bus to an internet cafe in either the town of Gulu or Masindi.
Sadly, the water situation continues to be a problem but we hope soon to receive some funds to get the borehole done. We have now found a local engineering company able to undertake the necessary geological survey and subsequent drilling. Please help if you can...
Many thanks for your interest!
