The majority of young South Africans are marginalised and are at risk of engaging in high risk behaviour. They generally struggle to access opportunities such as higher education and employment. The Award is an internationally recognised social qualification that focuses on equipping youth with universal skills such as resilience, perseverance, confidence, adaptability, leadership, teamwork and emotional wellbeing. Your contribution will enable us to reach more young people.
In South Africa, it is difficult for youth to access tertiary placement or employment. Each year, thousands of youth enrol for our Award Programme to gain soft skills that universities and employers consider necessary for holistic development. They recognise the importance of going the extra mile and finding their purpose, passion and place in the world. Unfortunately, as easy as it is to implement our Award, it still is too costly for the most vulnerable communities of South Africa.
The President's Award provides youth with an Award Framework, used internationally by more than 1 million young people. With the guidance and support of adult volunteers, and for more than 35 years, we ensured that young people develop a well-balanced lifestyle. Young people are equipped with various, universal skills such as resilience, perseverance, confidence, leadership, teamwork, adaptability and emotional intelligence.
By reaching our goal, we will be able to provide more vulnerable young people, the opportunities of: 1. Improved employability and earning potential; 2. Improved physical health and fitness; 3. Improved mental health and emotional wellbeing; 4. Increased engagement with charitable and community causes; 5. Improved environmental impact; 6. Increased social cohesion; and 7. Reduced offending (for those vulnerable youth that are incarcerated).
