Bring Fruit Trees to Native American Reservations

To help celebrate the holidays, we are asking our friends and past donors to contribute towards our Native American and indigenous people focused projects. Tribal communities are in need of food security for the long term, and fruit trees are that solution. We have a growing list of tribes requesting fruit trees, and in order to meet this increased demand, we must raise the funds.

This summer, the Fruit Tree Planting Foundation returned for the second time to visit the remote Leech Lake Reservation in northern Minnesota. The Leech Lake Band of Chippewa Indians have asked for our continued programming on the Reservation in order to help battle food insecurity, malnutrition, and diet-related diseases that stem from a loss of Native agriculture and culinary traditions. 

This year, we planted 65 trees to create and expand four orchards at schools and community centers. The tribe's chief forester Keith Karnes told FTPF's Executive Director:

"There are real trees, going in the real ground, they'll have real fruit for real people."

We plan to return to plant and distribute more trees with Keith and our other friends in the Leech Lake Tribe. Will you donate $25 today to contribute towards our ongoing efforts?
