Steel communal hand-wash and rainwater jar
Dear Friends,
Greetings and thank you very much for your continuing support to our project to provide communal hand-wash in schools here in Leyte. This reporting period we are able to provide 2 units communal hand-wash and 2 units giant ferro-cement rainwater jars in 2 schools in Albuera Municipality. Our hand-wash design is made of steel and very durable and with very few faucets since the water exit for hand-washing is bored directly to the steel. The problem with the faucet-type is that children play with it and it is easily destroyed.
Our hand-wash is pre-fabricated and has been thoroughly tested in several schools already. It is also easy to assemble by lay-persons and ensures appropriate functionality at lowest cost. Our next move is to encourage the parent associations in the schools to beautify and complement the facility with supply of hygiene kits such as soap, toothbrush and toothpaste.
Hoping for your continued support to this project.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora

Dear Friends,
Warm greetings from Leyte and thank you very much for your continuing support to our initiative here. Our work here is continuing because the damage caused by the typhoon is massive and covered a very large area affecting millions of people. We are continuing our implementation of the communal hand-wash for schools and this period we have installed 7 hand-wash in 7 different elementary schools. We realize during installation the need for water in some of the schools so we also install rainwater harvesters made of iron and concrete. Rain is plentiful since this month is the start of the rainy season. One of our rainwater collectors can store 10,000 litres of water and this can be used to fill the container for the hand-wash as well as for general hygiene use. This period we have installed 1 rainwater collector in Amagos Elementary School in Barangay Amagos, Bato, Leyte and this will serve the needs of 173 school-children.
Thank you once again for your continuing support.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora

Water filters as supplement

Water filters will save lives
Dear Friends,
Greetings from Leyte. As we continue to implement the communal hand-wash in schools, we found out one major problem. This is the situation when water is deficient and local households are using the water supplied to the hand-wash also for their house needs and some of the sources are not reliable with suspected water contamination. In this case, we are supplying the families with water filters attached to water containers. The water filters will last years and will help ensure that water is safe for drinking by the local people.
We are trying to provide more water filters and additional help you can provide to this project will be greatly appreciated.
Again, thank you very much.
Very sincerely yours,
Cora
