Thank you for your generous donation to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. It has been 10 months since the start of the full-scale war in Ukraine, and contributions like yours are continuing to make a difference. They are supporting nonprofit organizations’ humanitarian response efforts and delivering crucial help and hope to people in need amid hostilities, constant stress, and difficult conditions away from home.

I am writing this report from the Point of Indomitability in Kyiv while experiencing a two-day power outage in the city. These points are safe havens during long periods when electricity or heat is switched off. And from conversations with our nonprofit partners, I realized that, with your support, GlobalGiving became a figurative Point of Indomitability for our partner organizations in Ukraine and neighboring countries during this war.

Since we last updated you, the fund has supported 35 grants to high-impact and community-led nonprofit organizations at the forefront of this wide-reaching crisis. These grants will support our partners in undertaking holistic winterization activities and caring for forcibly displaced persons, children, and the elderly. The grants will also help strengthen civil society groups and their emergency responses, and provide medical support inside Ukraine and neighboring countries.

GlobalGiving’s support is responsive to the changing conflict lines and needs that arise as a result of the war in different parts of Ukraine and the region.

Here is what one Ukrainian organization, CF Orphanni Synytsi, wanted you to know about the impact of your donation:

“Before the full-scale war, we mostly responded to life-threatening diseases and provided equipment. But after the full-scale war started, we had to deal with more issues because war is a catastrophic disaster. Patients needed transportation, relocation… They needed everything! The grant (from GlobalGiving) arrived at the perfect time, so we did not have to look for funding elsewhere during the emergency but could respond quickly” – Tetiana Zamorska, Executive Director, CF Orphanni Synytsi

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • National Network for Local Philanthropy Development is currently focused on preparing winter accommodation centers for internally displaced people and helping schools function offline during power outages. As a Ukrainian network of charitable organizations, including community foundations across Ukraine, the National Network is uniquely positioned to bring local leaders together and respond quickly to evolving needs.
  • Polska Akcja Humanitarna supports people affected by the war, including refugees arriving in Poland and those displaced within Ukraine. The organization is providing food, hygiene products, and psychosocial support to older people affected by the conflict.
  • Life Quality Fund provides critical food, medication, and hygiene supplies to people in need across eastern and southern Ukraine, and to internally displaced people in other regions of the country. The Ukrainian organization also devotes its time to rebuilding destroyed infrastructure and delivering toys, hygiene products, and sweets to impacted children.

Thanks to your donation, there is hope in the eyes of people who endured a very difficult year but are looking forward to the coming year. Your support of the GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund powers community-led responses. It means liberated and war-affected regions of Ukraine, and displaced people in its neighboring countries, get the critical resources they need to survive a difficult winter, strengthen their resilience, and rebuild. You can find a full list of recent Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund nonprofit partners receiving grants at the end of this report.

With sincere gratitude,

Yuliya + the GlobalGiving team

Thank you for your generous donation to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. Donations to this GlobalGiving fund have been making a difference since the latest Russian invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, helping nonprofit organizations save lives and strengthen their resilience.

Over the past two months, donations to the fund have supported grants to 18 high-impact nonprofit organizations responding to urgent needs on the front lines of this crisis. The organizations are also providing longer-term community support, including preparing for a difficult winter and responding in recently de-occupied areas of Ukraine. Winter is always harsh in the region, but with recent attacks on electricity and other critical infrastructure, and millions displaced by the war, your support is all the more critical.

Here is what one rescue-focused organization working in Ukraine told us:

"GlobalGiving’s [grant] comes in just as my team has been trying to figure out how to keep our efforts going and accelerate through the long winter. We know how critical support will be in the coming months when many are pulling back because public donations and interest have waned." Randi, Kidsave International

Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:

  • Food for Life Ukraine provides hot meals for communities across Ukraine, with special attention to dietary and cultural preferences. This is critically important as the recent increase in military strikes leaves millions of Ukrainians without electricity to cook.
  • Global Fund for Children is dedicated to supporting grassroots organizations that empower children and youth, including in Ukraine and Poland. The organization is supporting humanitarian needs during winter and activities focused on educational and psychosocial support for children affected by conflict.

  • Hungarian Helsinki Committee is assisting people fleeing from Ukraine in Hungary by providing free legal assistance and accessible information for refugees and other displaced persons.

  • Center Corporate Social Responsibility Development promotes the principles of sustainable business and social responsibility in Ukraine. The organization is establishing hubs in support of women entrepreneurs in Ukraine who are facing particular challenges as military conscription for men has forced families to make difficult decisions about child care and livelihoods.

Your support for the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund powers community-led responses, and it means war-torn parts of Ukraine and refugees in the region get the critical resources they need to help their community recover and rebuild. Thank you for your support for the future of Ukrainians. You can find a full list of nonprofit partners that recently received grants from the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund at the end of this report.

It is hard to believe that the war in Ukraine has raged on for six months. GlobalGiving created the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund days before Russia officially launched its invasion in February. At the time, our partners in Ukraine were already telling us that their communities were anxious and preparing for difficult days ahead.

As we continue to listen to our partners, they are sharing the worries they have for themselves and their families as the war drags on. They are worries like: “Funding has gone down—how can we keep supporting our people and our animals?” “The school year is starting, but where can we send our children safely and comfortably?” “The winter is coming, and we don’t know where we can stay.”

In six months, the war has resulted in several troubling records, including the largest and fastest displacement crisis in Europe since World War II, and the largest global fuel and energy crisis in decades.

But we have also seen record levels of generosity and incredible solidarity with the Ukrainian people. The Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund has been GlobalGiving’s largest fundraiser in its 20-year history. As a supporter of this fund, you are playing an important role in providing a lifeline to Ukrainians and addressing their long-term needs.

In our latest grant round, GlobalGiving sent an additional US$1.9 million to 33 vetted nonprofit partners helping the Ukrainian people in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Italy, and other countries. In addition to immediate life-saving aid, we’re also supporting two of our long-established Ukrainian partners focusing on longer-term community recovery activities. This is our sixth round of grants in our long-term response, with more support to come as needs grow and evolve.

Below is a short description of the humanitarian relief and recovery support you have powered with your donation:

  • Nezabutni Charitable Foundation is the first organization in Ukraine that focuses on caring for people with dementia and their families. Since the war broke out, they have supported patients with transport and evacuations, provided access to medicines, and coordinated accommodation and care resources. The organization is on a mission to transform the way dementia is addressed in the long term.

  • Federacja Polskich Bankow Zywnosci (Federation of Polish Food Banks) is committed to serving Ukrainian refugees and other people who don’t have reliable access to food in Poland. They’ve already supported more than 300,000 refugees. As food prices have skyrocketed and people’s incomes have dropped, the food banks rescue food, collect donations, and provide food aid to people in need.

  • Nova Ukraine provides humanitarian aid to communities and individuals in Ukraine and raises awareness about Ukraine in the US and globally. The foundation is supporting Ukrainian organizations and initiatives, including evacuations that become necessary as the conflict lines shift and disrupt access to food and medicine throughout the country.

  • The Zagoriy Foundation supports civil society organizations vital to communities across Ukraine. They provide organizations in their network with resources, including opportunities to increase their professional knowledge and skills, network and build partnerships, and access mental health services.

Thank you for standing with the people of Ukraine. You, and so many others in the GlobalGiving community, have stepped up to support people going through an unimaginable situation for the past six months. Our partners in Ukraine and the region are grateful for the ongoing support as they provide relief and assistance for families and individuals affected by the war. Together, we will continue to stand with them, and we will continue to inform you about how your support is making an impact.

With immense gratitude,

Sarah + the GlobalGiving team

Tragically, the latest war in Ukraine is approaching its fourth month. Details of the casualties, human rights violations, and humanitarian impacts of this violent conflict continue to flood the news and social media. Our collective heart breaks as we learn that 16 million people need humanitarian assistance.

Among those millions are a young mother of three, a loving grandfather physically unable to leave his home with his family to seek safety, and a boy undergoing chemotherapy with the sound of sirens in the background.

Throughout these long and arduous months, your generosity and words of support provide much needed reassurance to the courageous local leaders on the front lines of this war. My team hears firsthand about their steadfast optimism and incredible resilience. And we hear that they are grateful to you.

In our largest grant round yet, GlobalGiving this week sent an additional US$3 million to 55 vetted nonprofit partner organizations helping people in Ukraine and welcoming refugees in Albania, Hungary, Moldova, Poland, Romania, and other countries in the region. This is our fifth round of emergency grants in our long-term response, with more support to come as needs grow and evolve.

Below is a short description of some of the humanitarian relief and long-term support you have powered with your donation:

  • Legal Development Network launched #StandWithUkraine, which is working in collaboration with 15 organizations in different regions of Ukraine and serving 200,000 people monthly. They provide relocation services for families to relatively safe areas of central and western Ukraine. They also aggregate and disseminate information about legal services and access to humanitarian aid, including mental health and counseling. Their teams support the humanitarian center in Kyiv, which provides food, water, clothing, footwear, and medicines for city residents.
  • Fundacja Koalicja Dla Mlodych (Coalition for Youth Foundation) focuses on supporting refugees in Poland. Working with more than 200 volunteers, they manage the largest warehouse in the region with essentials like food, hygiene products, clothes, and medical supplies. In addition to meeting basic needs, they also coordinate with local authorities, companies, and schools to help refugees safely relocate to other regions in Poland and find shelter and jobs. The coalition covers the cost of school starter kits and meals for kids and also coordinates deliveries of emergency supplies to their partner organization working in the Ukrainian town of Biaobrzegi.
  • Fuel Relief Fund is distributing fuel to power generators and humanitarian fleets across Ukraine. With their GlobalGiving grant, FRF is focusing on fuel delivery to local organizations providing critical humanitarian assistance and to civilians impacted by the ongoing conflict.

Since the Russian invasion started, your donation has helped provide urgent relief to individuals and families in Ukraine and in countries across the region. In the months and years ahead, GlobalGiving will continue to work closely with vetted nonprofits on the ground delivering humanitarian aid and longer-term support for these communities to rebuild. Thank you for supporting these efforts. We will inform you about how your donation continues to make a difference for individuals and families affected by the war in Ukraine.

With immense gratitude,

Sandrina + the GlobalGiving team

It’s been 72 days since the latest Russian invasion of Ukraine unleashed a devastating war and forced more than 12 million people to leave their homes and seek safety. Most of them are women and children, and all of them are experiencing the effects of this war. During this time, you have stood with the Ukrainian people and provided critical support through your generous donation to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. Thank you.

In the past three weeks, GlobalGiving sent an additional US$2.8 million to 46 vetted nonprofit partner organizations helping people in Ukraine and refugees fleeing to other countries in the region. This is our fourth round of emergency grants in our long-term response, with more to come as needs change and emerge.

Below is a short description of some of the humanitarian relief and long-term support you have powered with your donation:

  • Bright Kids Charity is distributing cash, food, and other emergency supplies and providing medical treatment for children with disabilities and their families. They’re focused on low-income families and single mothers who do not have the means to evacuate and are forced to shelter in their homes.

  • The International Charitable Foundation Social Projects Center of Future is delivering meals, hygiene kits, and medical supplies across different shelters in Ukraine. They’re supporting an early childhood center that has become a temporary shelter for women with children under 4 years old who have escaped active combat zones. They’re also providing flea treatments and other supplies for pets in these shelters.

  • Fundacja Centrum Praw Kobiet (Women's Rights Center) operates a helpline and offers other psycho-social support services by connecting mental health professionals fluent in Ukrainian with women and children arriving in Poland.

We are grateful for your donation to help Ukrainians suffering in this war. You are part of a caring community of donors from 147 countries. As the war continues, we remain committed to providing humanitarian relief and long-term support through the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. We will keep you informed about how your donation is funding nonprofits delivering emergency relief and helping Ukrainians provide for their families and rebuild their lives in the months and years to come.

With deep gratitude,

Sandrina + the GlobalGiving team

About GlobalGiving’s Disaster Response

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.

We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.

They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
