Thank you for your generous donation to the Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. More than one year into the war in Ukraine, the needs are still great for people who fled the country and those who remain in Ukraine. Your contribution is powering rapid and flexible support during the ongoing emergency.
I am writing this update from Kyiv, where we’ve experienced rocket and drone attacks for the past month. The escalation in fighting also continues in different ways. On June 6, there was a massive explosion at the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant that led to the destruction of this critical dam. This may be the biggest technological and ecological disaster in Europe in decades.
The scale of the flooding is extensive; thousands of people and animals have to be evacuated while their houses and all of their possessions are going underwater. Shelling continues at the same time. The consequences for cities, villages, and ecosystems in the region are enormous. Tons of oil are now in the Dnipro River, threatening drinking water supplies.
With the help of your donations, we rapidly launched an emergency response to the impact of the dam’s collapse. We were able to provide immediate support to high-impact nonprofit partners that have been responding in the epicenter of this disaster zone since the first hours of the attack.
Here is a short description of some of the critical work you’ve supported:
Here is what one Ukrainian organization, Happy Paw, wanted you to know about the impact of your donation:
"Immediately after this devastating tragedy, we are engaged in the evacuation of animals and their resettlement in shelters in Mykholaiv, Odesa, the unoccupied part of Kherson, and other cities. The grant from GlobalGiving will help to build booths and enclosures to resettle the evacuated animals." - Nina Lozinska, Happy Paw
Your support of the GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund powers community-led responses in emergency situations like this one. Thanks to your donation, people who are living through the war continue to receive support when they need it most. A full list of nonprofits that received emergency grants for this urgent response is below. Stay tuned for another update on how your donation continues to impact the broader needs resulting from Russia’s war in Ukraine.
In solidarity,
Yuliya + the GlobalGiving team

When a disaster strikes, recovery efforts led by people who live and work in affected communities are often overlooked and underfunded. GlobalGiving is changing this reality. Since 2004, we've been shifting decision-making power to crises-affected communities through trust-based grantmaking and support.
We make it easy, quick, and safe to support people on the ground who understand needs in their communities better than anyone else.
They were there long before the news cameras arrived, and they’ll be there long after the cameras leave. They know how to make their communities more resilient to future disasters, and they’re already hard at work. GlobalGiving puts donations and grants directly into their hands. Because the status quo—which gives the vast majority of funding to a few large organizations—doesn’t make sense.
