We’re excited to share an update on what 7amleh has been working on over the past few months!
But first and foremost, we want to thank you for your donations over the course of our end-of-the-year giving campaign and this entire year. Amidst the uncertainty that comes with doing this work, we are incredibly grateful to you for providing us this important support.
Exciting Update
Did you hear? Last week, 26% of Microsoft shareholders voted in favor of a resolution urging the company to reassess its due diligence practices, after it failed to identify and disclose serious human rights risks connected to its contracts with the Israeli military.
Did you know? Back in September, 7amleh, together with Access Now, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), and Fight for the Future, demanded transparency and accountability around Microsoft’s ties to the Israeli military. That collective pressure is starting to show results.
Now what? When one in four shareholders openly challenges a corporation over technology linked to genocide, it marks a real turning point. In 2026, we’ll keep pushing companies like Microsoft, Amazon, PayPal, and Google, continuing the fight for accountability and justice for Palestinians.
Over the Past Few Months
2025 Brussels Convening: 7amleh convened its second annual European conference in Brussels at the beginning of this month, at a time when Palestinian digital rights are under unprecedented pressure, both online and across the European political landscape. Under the theme: "Protect or Perpetuate? The European Union’s Choice on Palestinian Digital Freedoms", the conference brought together leading voices from academia, civil society, journalism, EU institutions, and the tech sector to examine how Europe’s regulatory choices and political climate are shaping Palestinian freedom of expression, access to information, and participation in the digital public sphere.
The Mariam Abu Daqqa Fellowship Launch: 7amleh launched the Mariam Abu Daqqa Fellowship to support researchers, scholars, and practitioners producing original research that addresses digital rights violations, surveillance, and the political economy of technology in the Palestinian context and beyond. The 2025 cohort brings together five exceptional fellows whose work explores the intersections of technology, human rights, and colonial power. Read the bios of our cohort here.
Report - Digital Rights Under Threat: The Impact of LinkedIn’s Biased Moderation Amid Genocide: This report documents, through fifteen user testimonies and interviews with LinkedIn and Microsoft employees, the violations resulting from biased content moderation practices and their impact on Palestinian human rights defenders amid Israel’s ongoing war and genocide in Gaza. The report reveals serious gaps in LinkedIn’s moderation policies and an internal work environment marked by institutional bias in favor of Israel and anti-Palestinian racism.
7amleh Position Paper: Exposing How Disinformation Is Reshaping the Reality of Palestinian Youth amid Genocide: The paper examines how disinformation has become one of the central tools of Israel’s war on Gaza—not only to justify genocide but also to reengineer the collective consciousness of both Palestinians and the global public, particularly among youth.
Taking the Conversation Global: Over the past few months, 7amleh had a variety of presentations and engagements. Our Executive Director met with a range of partners in London and co-hosted a public event with a full house of 100 attendees, alongside Makan and Al-Kindi Club titled “A Conversation on Big Tech and Genocide.” 7amleh also took part in a panel at Circuit Breakers 2025 in New York and multiple panels at SMEX’s Bread & Net conference in Beirut including the following: "War and Digital Shadows: Palestinian Women Between Voice Confiscation and Body Exposure;” “Accountability for Digital Rights Harms: Legal Action Grounded in International Law;” and “How is Social Media Monetization Impacting WANA?”
Looking Ahead
We have several exciting reports in the pipeline and important speaking engagements ahead that will help us continue advancing our mission in 2026, Our 10th Annual Palestine Digital Activism Forum will take place online on 30–31 March 2026. Join us to follow sessions and discussions focused on Palestinian digital rights. Stay tuned for more information on registration.
With your continued support, 7amleh will keep advocating, documenting, and empowering communities in the face of growing challenges. Together, we can help build a safer and more equitable digital future for Palestinians.
