Challenge

Beneficiaries live in poverty-stricken townships with high levels of unemployment, hunger and HIV/AIDS. Most lack formal education or skills. Communities lack housing and other essential resources. Townships are built on infertile sand-dunes, where precious Cape Flora has been badly damaged. Beneficiaries include women, youth, the elderly and persons both infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.

Solution

To provide 200 disadvantaged people with intensive training in organic Urban Agriculture or Horticulture. Each trainee will receive a starter pack with everything necessary to start their own gardens. Fieldwork support will be provided for one year.

Long-Term Impact

This project will help communities fight poverty and hunger, while conserving the environment.

This project has provided additional documentation in a PDF file (projdoc.pdf).
