Half a million meals for 500 families facing acute hunger in Northern Nigeria. With inflation over 40% and repeated floods, food prices have soared, nearly 4.4 million people in the northeast are food insecure. At $3.96/day per person, families cannot afford basics. This project will deliver monthly food packs (rice, beans, oil, vegetables) to each family, sustaining them through the lean season. We seek $50,000 to cover food procurement, transport, and distribution logistics to ensure survival.
Conflict, flooding, and inflation have hit Northern Nigeria hard. In the northeast, 4.4 million face food insecurity and 26.5 million nationwide face hunger. Many families have lost crops, income, and access to markets. The lean season pushes households into severe shortages; children, pregnant women, and elderly are at risk. Without aid, this crisis can fuel malnutrition, illness, and long-term harm to community health.
We will distribute monthly food packs of rice, beans, garri, vegetable oil, and seasoning to support 500 families facing acute hunger in Northern Nigeria. By using local suppliers, we support community vendors and avoid delays. Food will be distributed via organized, staggered queues to ensure fair and safe delivery. Monitoring visits will assess family satisfaction and food use. This approach gives families more time for other priorities and reduces their risk of health issues linked to hunger.
By meeting urgent food needs, families avoid selling assets like livestock, helping preserve livelihoods during crisis. Improved nutrition supports children's growth, learning, and long-term health. Strengthening local supply chains builds resilience for future lean seasons. Once harvest returns, these families will recover faster, with less debt and better health. Success here can be replicated across nearby communities, showing donors how timely aid creates stability.
