Since the begining of our non-profit, our plan was to deal mostly with older dogs, dogs with behaviour issues or health issues, in a small number.
Our plan failed, because from the first moment we were faced with abandoned puppies after abandoned puppies, and the same for kittens.
We realised early on that spaying and neutering is our only option for decreasing the number of abandoned animals, so we started talking with the authorities, and locally, in our commune, 2023 was the 3rd year of them paying for spaying registered dogs. But what does this mean for us, considering thei don't pay for transport, the local veterinary practice doesn't care about dogs( only big animals ) and they don't promote this campaign. It means that we do all of that, we made flyers, we schedule them, we took the dogs weekly to the vet practice that we work with, which is 25 km away (so at least 100 km per week to take them there in the morning and pick them up in the evening). We answered the phone and took them back at the vet practice if something was wrong.
On top of this, we also spay cats and dogs that are not registered or are not in our commune. In most cases we also offer transport for them.
A veterinary ambulance would allow us to ask for authorities from the nearby communes, that do not have vets that do spaying on dogs and cats, to pay for this. Right now, we cannot afford, neither finantially or time wise to cover more area.
Please help us improve the situation for cats and dogs in Romania! We cannot do it without your help.
Attached you can see some of the puppies and kittens that we managed to rescue this year, although most of them needed surgeries, treatments or special care.
