Challenge

The Virgin Islands suffered tremendous losses and trauma as a result of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, including the loss of the original location of the VI Children's Museum, from which we are still recovering. The museum was forced to relocate twice last year, in order to continue serving our community, and is still suffering under the financial strain of rebuilding and recovery.

Solution

In addition to the dynamic, educational exhibits at the museum, the VICM provides year-round innovative, relevant and accessible programming that fuels the growth of the Virgin Islands' children. Support for these programs facilitates the museum's ability to provide high-quality education programs to our community, where geographical and financial constraints otherwise limit access to these important educational experiences.

Long-Term Impact

The VICM is an important resource for our community, as we not only create a safe space for children to learn, play, and explore, but also interact with a wide variety of educational disciplines to spark excitement in their own ability to learn and solve problems. The VICM enhances parent involvement in their child's learning, reinforces classroom lessons, and promotes workplace preparedness through the development of 21st century skill, reducing the cycle of poverty in the territory.
