Its 2023 and KOSHISH could reach to 45 women from different parts of Nepal. in four months. These women are survivors of physical violence, psychological trauma, verbal abuse, exploitation and many more. The generous support from GlobalGiving helped KOSHISH provide specialized psyco social support, care to all the women identified. They receive holistic support in the facility building with 24 hrs care.
Out of 45 women, 17 have successfully reintegrated int heir family. The process is never easy and requires multiple follow up and counselling. They are in continuous follow-up calls through community campaigner of KOSHISH shelter home. during follow-up it is found that, women are receiving family care in better way than before. They also feel to work on their self hygiene. Few have been noticed requiring livelihood support. This would require vocational training, seed fund for farming, cattler rearing, poultry farming , gardening, or initiating small tea stall. KOSHISH is willing to empower these women for more and boost their confident. This will surely require continous support from GlobalGiving.
My Second Life: My name is Shanti Khatri (52 yr). I have two daughter, 3 sons, a daughter in law, a grandson and a granddaughter. My daughters and sons are married. I live with my husband. Its been 30 years we married. but he has been assaulting me for a long . Initially I thought it was his drinking habit that made him lose his mind. Later, I came to know that he was having an extra marital affair. He did not want me to be home. One day, he came home with his girlfriend. As he saw me there, he threatened my life, even assaulted me physically. Neighbors rescued me. After that, I started overthinking and losing sleep. it led headache, feeling dizzy gradually to suicidal thought. One day, I heard about KOSHISH Nepal and its work over a radio. I tried calling at a toll-free number of KOSHISH office. The staff explained to me everything about counseling, confidentiality, treatment and rehabilitation of people with mental health. I shared my stories with them. I was listened me the whole time. The caregivers and nurses are friendly with me. COunsellor is always talks to me and ask if i needed anything. I broke down. I could not hold back my tears. after counselling session, I felt as if I took a heavy load off my shoulders. I also learned life skill such as breathing techniques in case I become emotionally choked up. The counseling proved useful in all respects. Later they contacted my husband for couple counselling, I was reintegrated to my family and currenlty my husband takes care of me. I am grateful to KOSHISH for this second life.
Name has been changed to protect her identity. It has been learnt that her husband has been taking care of her for further treatment.
