Do you sometimes believe that you would have made far greater career progress if half of what you know today, you knew when you were a teenager? Teenagers the world over, more so in Africa, need such information today to stem the tide of youth unemployment and underemployment and you can actually make this happen for them. This is even much more important in the Covid-19 era and beyond because the world of work is drastically different from what it was before now. Help us address this issue
In Q3 of 2018, 45million Nigerian youth were unemployed/underemployed. This was partly as a result of young people being ignorant of the existence of certain occupations and thus not developing skills in such areas. This is obvious because young people cannot aspire to what they do not know. In addition, some young people and their parents are not aware of other post-secondary education opportunities and so they get stuck in a rut because they think "it's university or bust".
The Careers Fair will bring corporate organizations, professional bodies, and post-secondary institutions all together to speak with the youngsters. The aim of the program will be to widen the horizon of the students with regards to their post-secondary school opportunities and how to access them. They will also get to do Career Assessments and craft their career plans. Proper guidance and adequate information will help them face their futures with confidence.
The long term impact is the reduction of unemployment and underemployment among our youth; our youth will grow up to become productive adults all contributing their quota to the development of our nation Nigeria.
