This Fall families throughout WA State will have to find new ways to support their kids' learning with schools going virtual due to COVID-19. WA Boys & Girls Clubs are here to help students with all-day programs that facilitate distance learning with dedicated spaces, professional staff, meals and snacks, and school supplies. Your support will ensure that kids from challenging socio-economic situations, where parents must work, have the support they need to excel in school, #whateverittakes!
COVID-19 precautions are causing the majority of schools in WA state to temporarily transition to virtual-only instruction. For low-income families this is a significant burden, especially if their children are younger, and require adult support and supervision to succeed in an all-virtual learning environment. Many families will have to make a tough choice between their jobs or their child's education. For some, that's an impossible choice!
This project will allow Boys & Girls Clubs throughout WA to provide more scholarships for kids from low-income families to enroll in our full-time Club programs. All Clubs adhere to the strict social distancing guidelines provided by the CDC and WA Dept. of Health. Kids will be supported in a fun, safe, educationally focused environment, while their parents can maintain employment and can be confident that their children will receive learning support, social recreation and meals.
Recent studies focused on impact of COVID-19 on student learning show that there will be lasting impact on children from racially diverse backgrounds and lower socio-economic status. Learning losses experienced due to COVID-19 school closures are shown to impact both short-term educational outcomes, and long-term earning potential, health and mental well-being of today's students. Our Clubs strive to assist kids and families who are the farthest from educational equity and justice.
