Her Academy is a revolutionary non-profit organization, working holistically to create a safe, empowering and accessible learning space for women escaping prostitution in Israel. Through 14-week vocational courses taught by volunteer professionals, we help women seeking a stable economic future - outside of sex work - to develop skills and harness those they already have in the realization of secure and stable futures.
According to Israel's Ministry of Social Affairs, an estimated 14,000 people in Israel work in prostitution. A recent survey shows that 76% of the women engaged in sex work said they would leave the cycle of prostitution if given the opportunity. Devastatingly, women in prostitution routinely suffer violence and trauma, many having been sexually abused or otherwise victimized as children. Her Academy's vocational training program offers these women a clear path and support into the work force.
Our vocational courses provide these women with the necessary skills and support they need so that they may enter the workforce prepared and without the risk of returning to the sex industry. Through 14-week courses taught by volunteer professionals, we serve a diverse range of women, ages 17-60, to develop skills and harness those they already have in the realization of secure and stable futures.
Our success rate is remarkable: 90% of students graduate and over 75% find stable employment. This year, we are aiming to reach 200 students, and empower them in making a successful transition out of sex work and into financial and personal independence. Our program also works to create an impact in Israeli society at large, by working to create a more equitable and just society, with educational and work opportunities available for all.
