The biggest issue in Africa is the inability to find fresh, clean water for drinking and daily living. Most people in Africa rely on surface water and don't have the technology or the money to dig wells to harvest groundwater. The mission of Smile for Africa foundation is to make the small donations add up to a big change. With our current project we will help Greenfield Kids Foundation in Kabale, Uganda and will support 170 students to have clean water.
The Greenfield School is located in mountain area in Kabale, Uganda and the only water source there is the nearby river. The kids living there should walk 2 km to fetch water. A lack of clean water increases the risk of diseases as cholera, typhoid fever and dysentery. The Director of the school says:"Every day we use more than 20 jerrycans of water and we collect it from running river , when it rains the water becomes red and dirty but still we use it as we have no option".
Smile for Africa Foundation will provide big rooftop water storage tanks, which will constantly resolve the problem with the lack of water. This will help the children have more time for education and games, at the same time will also reduce the risk of morbidity. That's why we're focused on providing clean water and sanitation to every child in every community we work in, including the most vulnerable populations in the hardest-to-reach places.
Water supply and sanitation projects have impacts on people's lives which extend far beyond the expected improvements to health and reduction in time spent collecting water. The impacts can also include significant improvements in household income levels, increased school attendance occurs along with better childcare, social and cultural benefits such as reductions in stress levels, better family and community relations.
