Climate Change has led to severe drought becoming the norm in Bandhavgarh as annual monsoon rainfall reduces. The impact is felt by all when prey animals enter villages to drink/raid crops & predators follow taking livestock. Villagers can't afford these losses so they retaliate to end the conflict thus risking tigers' lives. Our project provides solar-powered borehole pumps to provide permanent water for wild tigers & their prey & solar PIR sensor lights to reduce human-animal conflict & impact
In recent years Bandhavgarh has suffered multiple water crises due to erratic rainfall & long drought periods. Existing seasonal wildlife waterholes replenished by monsoon rains dry-out earlier each year. Wild animals go to villages in search of water which leads to further human-animal conflict as crops are raided & livestock taken. Each of our waterhole projects will provide water for 6 or more wild tigers & countless other wild animals whilst reducing human-wildlife conflict.
Each project will provide solar powered pumps & permanent waterholes for wild tigers & their prey. We access underground streams to provide year round water whilst surplus water returns via soakaway systems. We've provided year-round water critical for the survival of 125 tigers at 24 locations. In 2024-25 we aim to complete work on at least 1 more permanent waterhole by the end of March 2025. This will help to reduce human-animal conflict & provide water for 6 more tigers & prey.
The lives of thousands of wild animals including more than 125 wild tigers will be saved by the year-round availability of water. Permanent wildlife waterholes reduce human-animal conflict and contribute to the conservation of the wild tigers' environment & sustainability of their habitat through ecologically focused actions.
