Hay Donation Drive to feed Rescue Horses & Burros

Thank you for your interest and support for our lifesaving mission to save starved and homeless horses and burros.  We are pleased to bring you this update about this important project.

A chief objective of WFLF’s Equine Rescue and Protection Program is crisis intervention for victimized equines whose lives are in imminent danger from starvation.  The Wild For Life Foundation steps up in troubled times to save dire need horses and burros who fall victim to starvation, displacement and abandonment. We are an all volunteer charity working around the clock on behalf of the horses, and during emergencies and crisis situations it’s an all-hands-on-deck operation and we literally put our lives on hold to rescue, recover and evacuate horses and burros from starvation and displacement. We provide rescue and sanctuary aid to benefit dire need horses and burros on a National level. We work in conjunction with local and state law enforcement and provide emergency & transitional housing and primary care for homeless, starved, neglected and abused equines in need.

Through GlobalGiving, with your continued kind and generous support we’ve raised $2771 through 63 donations to date. Our goal is to raise $20,000 in the next 60 days so that we can feed the rescued horses and burros served through the Wild For Life Foundation over the next four months. .  Having vital hay funds is what makes it possible for the Wild For Life Foundation to carry out our work. Without adequate hay supplies, we would be forced to turn away needy starving horses; horses that would have nowhere else to go.

As we strive to meet the needs of the vulnerable animals we serve, the ongoing influx of calls for our emergency rescue and protection services means that Wild for Life Foundation is constantly stretched in our ability to effectively respond to crisis.  Without crucial funding for hay, there have been occasions when we could not save animals in dire need.  The replenishment of WFLF’s lifesaving hay fund is crucial to fulfilling our mission to save and protect these precious innocent lives.  A lifetime of care for wild horses and burros can be up to 30 years or more per equine. With emergencies constantly needing attention across social media, yesterday’s emergencies are often forgotten and yet sanctuaries like ours continue to need help to do our lifesaving work.

Wild for Life Foundation is an all volunteer 501 c3 charity and we rely 100% on donations. We are deeply touched and encouraged by the showing of compassionate support from the caring GlobalGiving community. 

We are reaching out to spread the word about the vital need for recurring donations through our GlobalGiving platform. Through monthly gifts caring people can help secure nutritious hay for the desperate animals in need. Thank you for your interest and support for our lifesaving mission to save starved and homeless horses and burros.  We are pleased to bring you this update about this important project.

A chief objective of WFLF’s Equine Rescue and Protection Program is crisis intervention for victimized equines whose lives are in imminent danger from starvation.  Over two years we we've fed and saved hundreds of starved homeless and victimized horses from across the Nation, and we we've re-homed over 165 of them to safe harbor homes through our lifesaving mission. Indeed, we would not have been able to sustain these vital lifesaving rescue missions without the necessary funds to purchase enough nutritious hay to keep them fed.

Another two dozen starved and injured arrivals came into our program just in the last few months.  They arrived to our facilities after being seized and impounded, including malnourished pregnant wild burros, who have since had babies, and several starvation and abandonment victims. At the Wild For Life Foundation (WFLF) rescue is just the beginning of our caring and dedicated commitment to provide the urgent needs and best quality of life for equines in need. They come to us traumatized, shattered, desperate and betrayed. With us they find love, quality care, safety, compassion, dignity, trust, hope and a new beginning. 

Our society has determined that humane behaviors are a worthy goal in and of themselves as a higher expression of human potential. Yet intervention is often reserved for those who have the will to step up when others don’t feel empowered to do so.  We are vigorously working to meet our Hay Fund reserve budget through the bitter winter months. Our current target is to raise $19,500, which is estimated to cover hay and feed expenses for an average of 100 rescue equines served now through the end of February 2017. Financial contributions are urgently needed to help keep hay fund reserves intact and in turn provide capacity assurance which enable us to provide lifesaving rescue and protection services for starved and homeless equines.  

Among the neediest are those who are emaciated and will not be able to make it through the bitter winter months. Right now there are numerous mares in foal with foals by their side (pregnant mares with nursing foals) who need our rescue services, including starved senior horses in dire need who we would be able to help this month through the successful replenishment of WFLF’s lifesaving hay fund.  

Did you know that hay is the single most expensive ongoing cost in operating an equine rescue and protection program?  Most people do not realize that countless horses suffer from starvation every day.  They don't understand the daily gut wrenching pain, or why they can barely stand.   These innocent victims need our voice and our support right now.  Horses have been there for us through and through. They've fought our wars, built our cities, and been loyal companions.  But due to skyrocketing hay prices, compounded by high fuel costs and drought conditions in the west the cost of hay has more than doubled over the past few years and prices have continued to rise. America's horses need our help more than ever and we are counting on you to help us get the word out on their behalf. Our immediate and continuing need to replenish hay supplies is crucial.
