Dear Donors,
We sincerely thank the donors who have contributed to the Winter Blankets for Displaced Families in Nigeria project. Your compassion for families living in displacement camps is deeply appreciated. At present, however, the funds available are still too limited for the blanket distribution program to begin.
Across several northern states, many families forced to flee violence now live in temporary camps and crowded shelters. During the harmattan season, temperatures drop sharply at night, and the cold air becomes difficult to endure, especially for those sleeping without proper bedding.
In many camps, families sleep on bare ground or thin mats under simple shelters made from tarpaulin or other basic materials. Without warm blankets, children and elderly people are exposed to cold conditions that can lead to respiratory illness, persistent cough, joint pain, and other health problems.
Some households try to stay warm using thin wrappers or worn clothing, but these provide little protection during the coldest nights. The situation is especially difficult for mothers with small children and older persons who are already weak or ill.
This project plans to provide warm, washable blankets to displaced families living in camps across Borno, Benue, Yobe, Zamfara, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Plateau states, and the Federal Capital Territory. Distribution will be carried out with the assistance of camp coordinators and volunteers who will help identify households most in need.
Priority will be given to families with young children, elderly individuals, and households led by women. Each blanket will be selected for durability and warmth so that families can continue using them during future cold seasons.
We are grateful for the kindness already shown toward this effort. The generosity of those who care about displaced families encourages us to continue preparing for this project. With additional support, we hope to begin delivering blankets to those who are currently enduring cold nights without adequate protection.
Sincerely,
Ugbede-Ojo Dominic Kadiri
