This project will provide urgently needed food and winter items to 1,500 internally displaced or disaster victim families in the regions of Kunduz, Kabul, and Herat inside Afghanistan.
There are currently 5.5 million Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Afghanistan & over 50% are facing acute malnutrition & in dire need of winter items to face the rapidly falling temperatures under a chaotic Taliban management. As of September 2021 most land borders remain closed except for passage of cargo that allows for urgent humanitarian aid to IDPs in provinces such as Herat (<15,000), Kunduz (<91,000), and Kabul (25,000). Afghans & organizations in the region are calling for help.
International Blue Crescent Relief & Development Foundation (IBC) provides food parcels & winter items for vulnerable IDPs identified by IBC Afghanistan team with the local Afghan Red Crescent & local leaders of the districts of Herat, Kunduz, & Kabul. One food parcel can feed up to 6 people for 1 month & winter items are for the season. By identifying vulnerable people with the locals, we target distribution effectively & decrease people's risk for hunger, freezing, & competition for resources.
The project will provide food parcels and winter items for 1,500 families, or, approximately 9,000 people spread out over three provinces. This directly supports their immediate needs & helps combat acute malnutrition which will alleviate pressure on the collapsed medical system & shortage of medical aid available in the country while the political leaders address these & other urgent issues such as COVID-19, life-threatening drought, economic collapse, and overall coordination challenges.
