"Unleashing the power of women and girls through education, leadership, and fellowship"
GlobalGiving Update July 10, 2024
Dear Friends,
We continue to be grateful for your dedication to Women Changemakers for Education, and the amazing work our Fellows are doing to further women’s empowerment and girls’ education…Thank you for your support via GlobalGiving!!
We have lots to report since our March 2024 update. For starters, we had two global rock stars speak with our Fellows during our recent zoom leadership sessions. In early May, Dr. Bobbi Kurshan, Senior Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education, and co-author of InnovateHER – Why Purpose Driven Entrepreneurial Women Rise to the Top led a lively discussion of who is an entrepreneur and how do we recognize and encourage this characteristic through innovation? Fellows each took Bobbi’s Entrepreneurial Mindset Profile prior to the training session laying the groundwork for the discussion. Key takeaways? Taking risks are key factors in entrepreneurialism and can be nurtured, women with great mentors are more likely to rise to the top, and having a strong future focus is key to success.
The Fellows were also treated to a zoom session with Joyce Roché former CEO of Girls Inc. and commanding author of The Empress Has No Clothes: Conquering Self-Doubt to Embrace Success. She shared the many challenges she faced in her own leadership journey, chief among them being “an overachiever plagued by self-doubt” which she refers to, as the “impostor syndrome.” Joyce shared ways to identify the syndrome, among them determining “to what do you attribute your success?” and “what’s your relationship to praise?”. She shared strategies for quieting our inner naysayer: talk about it, read up on others’ experiences, learn not to brush off compliments, and write down your successes.
Last and by no means least WC4E Fellows continued their grass roots programs, and this period saw the distribution of $7,500, to six Fellows reaching over 2,500 people through education stipends, community awareness, impact measurement, and programs targeted at keeping girls in school.
Hamdaratu Mahama - What About Them Foundation
We quote a WC4E Alum: "What really excites me about Women Changemakers for Education is its focus on female leadership. When you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation, and this program is going to have a multiplier effect.”
Thanks again for your continued support!
Kind regards
