Dear Friends,
This has been a busy period for WC4E. We have lots to report on, including the most recent in person leadership training session in Accra, the 5 Year WC4E Celebration, and the launch of our $50,000 “Multiplier Effect: Local Leadership, Lasting Impact”Campaign. We’ll start with the August in person leadership training meeting.
August 1 – 3, 2025 in person leadership training meeting, Accra Ghana.
The in-person meetings are among the most eagerly anticipated aspects of Women Changemakers for Education, and the August 2025 session was no exception. The session was attended by nine of our ten Fellows, six mentors, and 4 local trainers/experts.The objectives of the meeting were: 1) Introducing Fellows to the Giving Voice to Values course, 2) Strengthening Fellows' personal leadership capacity, and 3) Deepening connections among peers and mentors within the cohort.
To those ends, Rose Dodd, WC4E Country Advisor, introduced the cohort to Giving Voice to Values Africa, an online course designed to empower students and professionals to act on their values in real-world situations. This has been an important opportunity for WC4E Fellows who have full access to the course, with all costs covered by Women Changemakers for Education.
Additional leadership training focused on:
Balancing Self Care and Professional Growth including 1) managing time intentionally and assertively, 2) building a strong support system, 3) creating a clear personal vision and working actively toward it. According to one Fellow, the session “… provided a space for me to truly assess myself, my journey, my goals and where exactly I want to be”.
Developing your Passion Career was facilitated by Ms. Araba Botchway who was driven by her passion for education, and through her leadership at Ashesi University, has provided millions of dollars in aid to marginalized students across the African Continent. As one Fellow noted “This session …..made me truly appreciate the sacrifices of my mother who is single-handedly taking care of myself and my siblings. It also taught me…about being brave and audacious enough to go for what I want.”
Personal financial Planning included
Networking Essentials equipped Fellows with the essential tools to build meaningful connections that support both personal and professional development. With an 88% session approval rate, one Fellows said: “Before the session, I've always been networking wrongly. Sometimes, I feel networking is burdening whoever I am networking with, but I learned a lot that will actually improve my networking skills.”
The 5 Year WC4E Anniversary Celebration
WC4E Celebrated 5 years of work in Ghana and hosted its 5th Anniversary Celebration at the Union Club of Boston. Joined by 50 Friends of WC4E, we heard from Rose Dodd about key program accomplishments including supporting 30 Fellows, hosting 2 National WC4E Conferences with 250 attendees, providing 600 hours of leadership training, 500 hours of mentorship, and distributing over $25,000 to 38 local programs, affecting 100,000 people at the grass roots. We also heard from alumna Fatimah Alhassan about what being a Fellow meant to her. Accordingly “Being a Fellow changed the way I see myself in the world. I now am full of energy and optimism which I use in my grassroots program “Seed of Hope Foundation.” We watched this uplifting 5 year video.
“The Multiplier Effect: Local Leadership, Lasting Impact Campaign”
To build upon our impact to date and to strengthen our investment in leadership development and long-term impact, our Board approved a $50,000 Campaign goal with the following targets.
Add Two Fellows – $12,500
We will add two new Fellows at an annual stipend of $12,500. This will increase our program's reach and allow us to diversify the skill sets and perspectives within our cohort, amplifying collective impact.
Increase the “Small Grant Fund” – $24,000
To support the ongoing projects and community projects led by our current Fellows, we propose an increase to the "Small Grant Fund.” These funds are directly allocated to Fellow-led initiatives at the grass roots level, enabling innovation, responsiveness to community needs, and sustainable change.
Establish the “Fellowship Fund” – $13,500
Real lasting change and growth takes time. To maintain momentum and engagement beyond the two years of the Fellowship, we will create an “Alumnae Fellowship Fund” to support continued leadership development, provide enrollment fees for regional and/or international conferences, tuitions for selected leadership training courses, facilitate access to global mentors, and other professional support opportunities. This fund will also encourage continued participation of Women Changemakers, a clear win/win all around
In closing, it is our privilege to share this program update with you. We hope you are inspired by all that Women Changemakers has accomplished and will do in the coming months and years. We remain deeply grateful for your interest and your support.
Kind regards,
Constance Kane
Executive Director
