Women, especially poors and refugees, have been impacted by spread of COVID-19 severely. They are more likely to be working in the informal labor market, and will more likely to be left without social protection as a result of economic recession or shutdown. This project will support initiatives of refugee and local women to overcome the negative impacts of COVID-19 and to build their resilience against the aftershocks by solidarity and self-support groups and joint economic initiatives.
Women have been impacted by spread of COVID-19 economically and socially. Women are more likely to be working in the informal labor market, and as a result women are more likely to be left without social protection measures as a result of economic recession or shutdown. Women refugees are also at higher risk as a result of the economic shutdown. Refugees are also excluded from any social support programs in response to COVID-19. The economic situation is anticipated to get more severe by autumn.
With this project, we will support the joint initiatives of the refugee and local women to overcome the negative impacts of COVID-19 and to build their resilience against the aftershocks. We will establish solidarity/self-support groups to identify and monitor the community needs and to bridge the community members with the relevant programs and services as well as responding emergent, vital needs, and strengthen women's collective economic initiatives to ensure their survival and sustainability
The project will increase refugee and local women's income generation means and capacities, foster social cohesion amongst them and with the wider community, and enhance recognition of their role in crises response, preparedness and local development.
